About Stefan

Mountain Elements is built on the vast experience of its founder, Stefan Buis. Stefan’s climbing career started 30 years ago as a climbing and canyoning instructor. During his 25 years working for the Marine Corps of the Royal Netherlands Navy, he qualified as a Royal Marine Mountain Leader (ML) and subsequently as a German Military Mountain Guide (Heeresbergführer, HBF).  As such, he has worked as operator, instructor and supervisor in Mountain & Cold Weather Warfare (high altitude and arctic environments) operations in the Dutch Special Forces.

In 2010, Stefan also qualified as a civilian international UIAGM – IFMGA mountain guide. This makes him unique in that he is one of the very few in the world who completed all three (ML, HBF, UIAGM) highly recognized mountaineering classifications in the world.
